Clarke Road United's Kerwyn Sirju was too good for Prisons in the T&T Cricket Board/Trinbago Knight Riders (TTCB/TKR) T20 Festival on Thursday at the Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair, Port-of-Spain. The spinner took three wickets to restrict Prisons to 110 all out in 16.1 overs.

Sidel Diaz (32), Bryan Boodram (23 not out) and Jerve Cummins (19) were the only Prisons’ batsmen to reach double figures as the Clarke Road bowlers proved too much for the team playing in their first season in the TTCB top flight.

Sirju followed up on the good work by Shiva Sankar, who took two wickets at the top of the order, to remove Keron Kanhai and Rickson Maniram to leave them reeling at 41 for two. Mark Deyal and Shatrughan Rambaran also accounted for the wickets of Diaz and Jerve Cummins before Sirhju mopped up the lower order with the wickets of Ricardo Sam, Stepphan Mc Pherson and Kristoff Lewis to go with the three run outs in the innings.

Clarke Road went about the chase of 111 in a usual manner. Nicholas Sookdeosingh went about his batting as if the target was bigger. He hit seven fours in his knock of 31 that lasted just 20 balls.

He was supported by Deyal who scored 12. Brathwaite, batting at number three, scored 42 from 30 balls with seven fours to guide Clarke Road to 113 for 3 for their second win in as many matches.

In the other match of the evening, Sri Lankan Shehan Jayasuriya and Guyanese Akshaya Persaud starred for Victoria in their 66-run win over Merryboys.

Jayasuriya produced a half-century (71) and Persaud scored 43 as Victoria reached 193 for 8 from their 20 overs.

In reply, the Diego Martin-based Merryboys were restricted to 127 for eight from their 20 overs to lose by 66 runs.

Summarised scores:

Victoria 193 /8 (20 overs) (Shehan Jayasuriya 71; Akshaya Persaud 43; Daniel Osouna 2-25; Justin Manick 2-32) vs Merryboys 127 /8 (20 overs) (Rondell Ramlogan 21; Avinash Mahabirsingh 2-3; Jordan Samkaran 2-25; Shehan Jayasuriya 2-25). Victoria won by 66 runs.

Prisons 110 all out (16.1 overs) (Sidel Diaz 32; Bryan Boodram 23 not out; Kerwyn Sirju 3-28, S Sankar 2-14 ) vs Clarke Road 113/3 (13.4 overs) (S Brathwaite 42 not out; Nicholas Sookdeosingh 31; S Mc Pherson 2-25). Clarke Road won by 7 wickets.
