Sisters Aliyah and Isabel Toussaint each scored nine goals to steer their respective schools, Chaguanas South Secondary and Carapichaima West Secondary, to comprehensive 10-0 victories when the action continued on Thursday.
Aliyah led from the front, exhibiting excellent goal-scoring form as her nine goals led Chaguanas South to a 10-0 demolition of Tabaquite Secondary, and their first victory of the season, at the Petersfield Recreation Ground in Felicity. The win moved the Chaguanas girls to third on the five-team standings with four points, courtesy of Thursday’s result and an earlier 1-1 draw with Carapichaima West Secondary last week.
There is still a long way to go for Chaguanas South, however, as Aliyah’s sister Isabel also hit top form. Isabel scored nine times for last year’s champions, Carapichaima West, in a similar 10-0 drubbing of Cunupia Secondary that shot them to the top of the standings with seven points. Kiana Jones scored the other goal in the Carapichaima victory.
Carapichaima West, known for their exploits in the boys’ top-flight Premiership Division, have now surged to the summit with seven points after three matches, one game more than both Chaguanas South and Holy Faith Convent. Isabel and company have won twice and drawn once to secure their lead position, but they still have five games remaining to defend their crown.
Holy Faith Convent hold second position with six points after just two matches.
Meanwhile, Signal Hill stayed on course for a successful defence of their title in the girls’ Championship Division by hammering Speyside Secondary 7-0 at the Bertille St Clair Field. Shaquana Brown was the only player to score multiple goals, netting a brace, while Gloria Henry, Jasiya Jackson, Kierra Murray, Leia-Marie Balfour, and Tyler Neptune each added a goal.
With the victory, Signal Hill reached nine points, tying them with second-place Scarborough Secondary, who prevailed 4-0 over Goodwood Secondary at Mount St George Ground. Adrianna Fowler controlled the Scarborough attack, scoring a brace, while Blessing Taitt and Shuquis Thomas contributed a goal apiece in the win.
Also on the sister isle, Bishop’s High thrashed Mason Hall Secondary 5-0, courtesy of double strikes from Anika Hector and Kerriscia Hurst, along with a goal from Kaylah O’Neil
