St Mon­i­ca’s Prepara­to­ry School (SMP) school as­sert­ed its dom­i­nance in the wa­ter po­lo are­na. Clinch­ing vic­to­ries over for­mi­da­ble ri­vals Di­a­mond Vale Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry, and 15-1 over Man­ta-Ray Com­bined Team in a thrilling dou­ble-head­er when com­pe­ti­tion con­tin­ued in the Re­pub­lic Bank’s Na­tion­al Pri­ma­ry School Mi­ni Wa­ter Po­lo League held at the Diego Mar­tin Com­mu­ni­ty pool at the Wendy Fitzwilliams Boule­vard, Diego Mar­tin over the week­end.

It was a dis­play of skill­ful ma­noeu­vres and strat­e­gy by SMP which left spec­ta­tors and their sup­port­ers in awe and op­po­nents in their wake, so­lid­i­fy­ing their rep­u­ta­tion as the Li­ons of the wa­ter.

In the Boys Ju­nior boys cat­e­go­ry, SMP made light work of the Man­ta Ray Com­bined Team by win­ning 15-1.

With SMP for­wards Chris­t­ian Grant and Gio­van­ni Sealy scor­ing sev­en and six goals apiece, which can on­ly be de­scribed as a goal fest.

Man­ta Ray fought valiant­ly, but the SMP goal­keep­er/cus­to­di­an Ephray­im Yis­rael was hav­ing none of it. Yis­rael had an im­pres­sive fourth quar­ter, by sav­ing sev­er­al at­tempts at goal from a re­lent­less Man­ta Ray of­fen­sive bar­rage.

SMP Se­nior girls dom­i­nat­ed their Di­a­mond Vale Gov­ern­ment Pri­ma­ry School op­po­nents 13-2, be­hind a flur­ry of swift at­tacks led by top scor­er Alyssa Sa­landy, who scored six goals, and Ro­maya Pierre four as SMP re­mained stead­fast, show­cas­ing their adapt­abil­i­ty and strate­gic prowess.

How­ev­er, the SMP ju­nior boys’ team fell 16-6 to Dun­ross Prepara­to­ry School with five dif­fer­ent play­ers get­ting on the score­sheet which saw Alex Wort­man scor­ing six goals, while Chris­t­ian Grant and Gi­van­ni Sealy scored three goals each for the op­po­si­tion.
