In a low-scoring match played at Crowne Street in Tacarigua, Technocrats comfortably sealed a nine-wicket victory over Hibiscus Women in the T&T Women's Cricket Association's (TTWCA) Twenty20 (T20) competition on Wednesday evening.
Tight bowling from Technocrats did well in restricting Hibiscus Women, who batted first, allowing them only 72 runs in its allotted 20 overs.
Bowlers Stephanie Ragoonath (1/13) and Akeira Peters (1/15) were able to stifle the batting of former West Indies allrounder Lee Ann Kirby, who scored 15, Rachel Vincent, another regional player, and Shari John, whom each added 12.
In reply, Technocrats needed 13 overs to get the winning score of 73-1 with Stacy Ann King leading with the bat with an unbeaten 34.
Bowler Allison Collins was best with 1/13 for Hibiscus, which is second on the table with four points from four matches and is ahead of Technocrats net run rate (NRR) with plus 1.04. The Technocrats team though has played three matches and has an NRR of plus-.63.
At Avidesh Samaroo Park in Endeavour, a half-century from Shania Abdool could not save Players Sports Club from defeat as they sank to a four-wicket loss to Cricket Divas.
Players batted first and with 72 from Abdool posted a score of 130-4 in their 20 overs. The only other batter to make a credible contribution was Nadia Mohammed with 28. Cricket Divas bowler Trisha Marquis caused the most problems for the Players batting line-up, claiming 2/10.
In Cricket Divas' time at the batting crease, it was not smooth sailing as Shanmatie Nowrang (2/11) and Nadia Mohammed (2/26) were able to disrupt the flow of runs.
Cecelia Bolah with her unbeaten 37 and Natalie Ninah with 27, produced enough to get their team to 131 while losing six wickets in the process in 18.4 overs.
