Youth Olympic Qualifier Makieve “The Sniper” Bellille will warm up Friday night in a feature bout at Jerry Junction car park on Waterloo Road, Carapichaima, from 6 pm.
The T&T youth boxing champion delivered a series of impressive performances at the Olympic qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand, in March, winning twice against hometown favourites Reyjan Palen and Damar Robinson before injuries led to a loss to Thailand’s Houssam Boucheta in a welterweight quarterfinal contest.
His qualifying berth at the Youth Olympics from October 30- November 13 in Dakar, Senegal has left him busy, aiming for the right preparation if he is to mount the medal podium. On tonight’s amateur card, Bellille will take on Josiah “Jigsaw” Mc Eachnie, a gold medal winner at the National Boxing Championships earlier this year.
At the national championships at the Southern Indoor Sports Arena in Pleasantville, San Fernando, Jigsaw carved his way to the final with a victory over Jordan Maloney and sealed the title with a triumph over Adrian Mc Kenna.
National coach Reynold Cox has rated both fighters of good quality, but both will have their own challenges to overcome when they square off tonight. The main bout will follow an equally exciting under-card: Jaden Castellano of the Octavius Boxing Gym up against Shalome Phillip of the Golden Fist Gym in a 75 elite kg contest.
Castellano was one of three gold medal winners at the Caribbean Boxing Championships at the Beausejour Sports Centre in St Lucia in 2024. His medal, coming from a victory over Travis Inverary of Guyana for the elite 71 kg title, was added to the two gold medals won the day before by Bellille and Jeremiah Thomas for a total of five gold medals, five silver, and three bronze medals, to earn the contingent in red, white, and black the overall second-place position behind Guyana.
Shalome Phillip has made a name for himself on the amateur boxing circuit and was among 13 boxers called earlier this year to begin preparation for future international competitions. The call-up came at the conclusion of the National Boxing Championships at the Southern Regional Indoor Sports Arena.
Also on the undercard will be a matchup between Neraj Mahadeosingh of Mitch Athletics Gym and Angelo Alleyne of Golden Fist in a 60kg Elite battle.
Mahadeosingh was voted the top youth boxer at the 2024 Caribbean School Boys/Girls boxing tournament in Guyana.
Entry for the card is $70.
