Youth Olympic Qual­i­fi­er Makieve “The Sniper” Bellille will warm up Fri­day night in a fea­ture bout at Jer­ry Junc­tion car park on Wa­ter­loo Road, Cara­pichaima, from 6 pm.

The T&T youth box­ing cham­pi­on de­liv­ered a se­ries of im­pres­sive per­for­mances at the Olympic qual­i­fiers in Bangkok, Thai­land, in March, win­ning twice against home­town favourites Rey­jan Palen and Damar Robin­son be­fore in­juries led to a loss to Thai­land’s Hous­sam Boucheta in a wel­ter­weight quar­ter­fi­nal con­test.

His qual­i­fy­ing berth at the Youth Olympics from Oc­to­ber 30- No­vem­ber 13 in Dakar, Sene­gal has left him busy, aim­ing for the right prepa­ra­tion if he is to mount the medal podi­um. On tonight’s am­a­teur card, Bellille will take on Josi­ah “Jig­saw” Mc Each­nie, a gold medal win­ner at the Na­tion­al Box­ing Cham­pi­onships ear­li­er this year.

At the na­tion­al cham­pi­onships at the South­ern In­door Sports Are­na in Pleas­antville, San Fer­nan­do, Jig­saw carved his way to the fi­nal with a vic­to­ry over Jor­dan Mal­oney and sealed the ti­tle with a tri­umph over Adri­an Mc Ken­na.

Na­tion­al coach Reynold Cox has rat­ed both fight­ers of good qual­i­ty, but both will have their own chal­lenges to over­come when they square off tonight. The main bout will fol­low an equal­ly ex­cit­ing un­der-card: Jaden Castel­lano of the Oc­tavius Box­ing Gym up against Shalome Phillip of the Gold­en Fist Gym in a 75 elite kg con­test.

Castel­lano was one of three gold medal win­ners at the Caribbean Box­ing Cham­pi­onships at the Beause­jour Sports Cen­tre in St Lu­cia in 2024. His medal, com­ing from a vic­to­ry over Travis In­ver­ary of Guyana for the elite 71 kg ti­tle, was added to the two gold medals won the day be­fore by Bellille and Je­re­mi­ah Thomas for a to­tal of five gold medals, five sil­ver, and three bronze medals, to earn the con­tin­gent in red, white, and black the over­all sec­ond-place po­si­tion be­hind Guyana.

Shalome Phillip has made a name for him­self on the am­a­teur box­ing cir­cuit and was among 13 box­ers called ear­li­er this year to be­gin prepa­ra­tion for fu­ture in­ter­na­tion­al com­pe­ti­tions. The call-up came at the con­clu­sion of the Na­tion­al Box­ing Cham­pi­onships at the South­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na.

Al­so on the un­der­card will be a matchup be­tween Ner­aj Ma­hadeosingh of Mitch Ath­let­ics Gym and An­ge­lo Al­leyne of Gold­en Fist in a 60kg Elite bat­tle.

Ma­hadeosingh was vot­ed the top youth box­er at the 2024 Caribbean School Boys/Girls box­ing tour­na­ment in Guyana.
