T&T men’s pairing of Daneil Williams and Joel Theodore will contest the semifinal playoffs for positions fifth to eighth when the final leg of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament serves off on Sunday at Ocho Rios in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
This after Williams and Theodore were beaten in their main draw quarterfinal by USA B-team of Paul Lotman and Miles Partain 18-21, 19-21 in a very close contest which lasted 37 minutes on Saturday.
In the fifth to eight semifinals, Williams and Theodore will meet Puerto Ricans Joel Rodriguez and Juan Ribas, who was stopped by USA-A’s Chaim Schalk and Jeremy Casebeer, winners of the last leg.
The other semifinal will feature Nicaraguans Ruben Mora and Denis Jose Lopez who beat Guatemalans Andy Blanco and Luis Garcia 21-18, 13-21, 16-14, against Canada’s Jake Mac Neil and Liam Kopp, 21-14, 21-16 victors against Jamaica-A duo, Noley Ferguson and Ryck Webb (21-14, 21-16).
Earlier in the morning session, playing their final Pool C round-robin match, the sixth-ranked Williams and Theodore fell to Mac Neil and Kopp 17-21, 26-24, 10-15 in their pool decider to end with a 2-1 record ahead of the quarterfinals.
When competition served off on Friday, the T&T men outclassed Arubans Angela Fransua and Eddy Toro Moldonado 21-16, 21-13 in 31 minutes and then dismissed Jamaican-B duo, Owayne Lawrence and Triston Hitchman 21-12, 21-13.
Grant, Joseph for 9th spot playoffs
The T&T women’s pair of Rheeza Grant and La Teisha Joseph, playing on the tour this year for the first time as team-mates, will be keen to end their season on a high when they compete in the playoffs for ninth spot.
The T&T duo was handed a first-round bye in their playoffs and will next play the winner of the all-Jamaica clash between Kai Wright and Petal Smith (Jamaica-A) and Tavia Watson and Selena Mitchell.
