De­fend­er Kyle Thomas of Mean Ma­chine was named the Fi­nals “Most Valu­able Play­er” (MVP) in the Un­cle Bed­doe Su­per­mar­ket/Hard­ware-spon­sored Ty­ro Sports Club sev­en-a-side foot­ball league.

Thomas helped his team cop the $4,000 first-place prize along with the Chal­lenge Tro­phy plus a repli­ca in the com­pe­ti­tion held at Gab­ba grounds in Bourg Mu­la­tresse in Low­er San­ta Cruz over the past two months.

Mean Ma­chine, who topped Group A in the pre­lim­i­nary round, fin­ished ahead of 2% who col­lect­ed $2,000 and a tro­phy for sec­ond place and third-placed Or­gans Youths, who re­ceived the $1,000 prize and tro­phy.

Thomas al­so picked up the award for “Best De­fend­er” while Dar­rell Slater of Mean Ma­chine was the best man­ag­er.

In oth­er in­di­vid­ual awards, Keron Mitchell (2%) was the MVP for the league com­pe­ti­tion, Or­gans Youths’ Shane Hospedales got the prize for “Most Goals”, scor­ing 24 and his team­mate Kevin Gra­ham won the “Best Goal-keep­er” ho­n­our.

The Ty­ro Sports Club will now shift gears to host its 45 and Over sev­en-a-side foot­ball com­pe­ti­tion at the same venue from Sun­day.

Teams will be seek­ing to qual­i­fy for the “Big 8” as the cham­pi­on will re­ceive $3,500 with a tro­phy plus a repli­ca. The next three places will be pre­sent­ed a tro­phy with sec­ond place get­ting $1,500, third $500 and fourth $400. The first-round win­ner will re­ceive $500 plus a tro­phy. Three play­ers be­tween 40-44 years can play at one time.

Awards to be pre­sent­ed at the end of the com­pe­ti­tion are MVP, most goals, most dis­ci­plined team, best goal-keep­er, best uni­formed team, best head­ed goal and best man­ag­er.
