T&T defender Aubrey David says it will be a case of a win or nothing when the Soca Warriors face Honduras in a crucial CONCACAF Nations League clash in San Pedro Sula on Sunday and his team will utilise Thursday’s Ecuador encounter to prepare for that scenario.
In an interview on Wednesday, David commended his teammates for the win against lowly-ranked Anguilla at the Ato Boldon Stadium on Sunday but said they will today face much tougher opponents in Ecuador at the Estadio Reales Tamarindos from 8 pm TT time (7 pm local time).
The T&T team arrived in Manta after a three-hour drive from Guayaquil early yesterday morning and coach Dennis Lawrence conducted his first training session soon after they arrived at the hotel.
Joining the squad in Manta was Belgium-based defender Sheldon Bateau and Malta-based forward Rundell Winchester, while team captain Khaleem Hyland, who missed the 15-0 win over Anguilla on the weekend, also travelled with the squad.
David, who campaigns with Deportivo Saprissa in Honduras and will be playing his 50th match for T&T, says he will be living a dream as he always wanted to emulate players like Russell Latapy on the national football team. He said with a win against Honduras needed, as they strive to qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and World Cups, a good showing against the Ecuadorians will be important.
David said the match was also an opportunity to end the year on a high, as a win for Honduras would build their confidence.
