The T&T men and women pairings of Suraya Chase and Lateisha Joseph, and Marlon Phillip and Kareem Thomas will contest the losers draw for positions ninth to 14th after ending winless in their respective round-robin pools at Doña Callita Tourism Ranch of Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic on Saturday.
The team of Phillip and Thomas were outlasted by Martinique’s David La Faivre and Brice Hardy-Dessources, 16-21, 21-15 and 10-15 and then suffered a 16-21, 13-21 loss to USA-B’s Jeremy Casebeer and Chaim Chalk on Friday in Pool D before returning on Saturday for a 16-21, 21-14, 9-15 loss to El Salvadoreans David Vargas and Carlos Escobar.
Casebeer and Chalk won the pool after beating Escobar and Vargas 21-17, 21-11, and La Faivre and Hardy-Dessources 21-10, 21-10 while Vargas and Escobar ended second after a 17-21, 21-16, 15-13 triumph over La Faivre and Hardy-Dessources in their other match.
In the loser's playoff, Phillip and Thomas were due to face Belize's Francis Hauze and Michael Jenkins who went 0-2 in Pool C with losses against Canada-B's Ian Towe and Sergey Grabovskyy 15-21, 15-21, and Canada-A's Jake McNeil and Simon Fecteau-Boutin 11-21, 18-21.
On Friday, in the 14-team Women’s Pool A competition, Chase and Joseph were humbled by US Virgin Islands’ Melanie Valenciana and Taylor Nutterfield 13-21, 12-21 and were also swept aside by USA’s Corinne Quiggle and Falyn Fonoimoana, 5-21, 13-21 and will meet another pair from Belize, Clara Sabal and Kelsey Balderamos from 9 am on Sunday.
This after Sabal and Balderamos were winless in Pool D as well, falling to Martiniquan sisters, Cristelle Choux and Carole Herve Choux, 16-21, 11-21; Puerto Ricans Maria Gonzalez, and Bianca Torres 12-21, 11-21; and Dominican Republic's Jubileth Payano, and Michelle De La Cruz 11-21, 9-21.
