T&T cricketers will go after a second win in the Regional Women's Super50 Championships when it faces the Leeward Islands at Bourda, Georgetown, Guyana, today from 9.30 am.
The national team pulled off an easy victory over Guyana in its opening match on Sunday at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. Reniece Boyce scored an unbeaten half-century to help T&T to a 69-run victory.
Boyce finished on 65 not out and got good support from Samantha Bissoon who was unbeaten on 35 and Stacy Ann King who made 28.
At one stage Guyana was cruising at 72 for one before suffering a dramatic middle order collapse which saw them capitulate to be all out for 152.
T&T needed an unbroken 64-run stand for the eighth wicket between Boyce and Bissoon to get them up to their eventual target after they had slumped to 157 for seven.
While Boyce was patient during her 90-ball knock, Bissoon was more aggressive, striking five boundaries in her 29-ball innings. Their late heroics allowed T&T to clear 200 and post a formidable total.
In their run chase, Guyana lost five wickets for only 18 runs, to collapse from the comfort of 72 for one to 90 for six. Felicia Walters and Anisa Mohammed were the main destroyers, with each claiming three wickets to quickly turn the contest into a lopsided victory for T&T.
In other matches today, Barbados will take on the Windward Islands, Guyana National Stadium while Guyana meets Jamaica at the Everest Cricket Club Ground in Georgetown.
Barbados captain Hayley Matthews produced a masterful bowling display in the opening round to help her side crush the Leeward Islands by seven wickets. Matthews grabbed seven wickets for just 27 runs as the Leewards were bundled out for just 88 runs.
Barbados then romped to 89 for three in 12 overs, with Deandra Dottin smashing an unbeaten 34 from 12 balls.
Jamaica posted the day’s highest total of 236 for eight from their 50 overs on the opening day of the competition. Chinelle Henry led the way scoring 54, Natasha McClean added 40, while Stafanie Taylor and Jodian Morgan each made 31.
And while the Windwards did well to recover from 69 for eight, they were never in a position to pose a serious threat to their victory target.
Afy Fletcher was the pick of the Windwards’ bowlers, grabbing 3-34 from her 10 overs. Vanessa Peters then wrecked the Windwards’ middle order, grabbing four wickets for just 25 runs to cripple any potential run chase.
It took an unbeaten 47 from Pearl Etienne to get the Windwards to a respectable total, with the 37 extras which Jamaica conceded being the next highest contributor to the total.
