T&T's golfers came within one point of winning the overall title at this year's Caribbean Golf Association (CGA) 4 Ball Golf Championships at the Cinammon Hill Golf Course, Rose Hall, Montego Bay, Jamaica, from last weekend (October 10-12).
The national players earned 90 points to finish one point short of the hosts and defending champion, Jamaica. Bermuda (79) was third with Bahamas (60), Cayman Islands (48), Barbados (30), St Lucia (27) and Turks and Caicos (12) following behind.
T&T earned top points from Victoria Seenath and Tori De-Freitas Baptiste, who retained the Ladies 25-plus Division, which they captured in Tobago last year. The pair hit a three-day tally of 206 (77, 75, 73) and returned home with the Maria Nunes Trophy for the second straight year.
They denied the 2023 winners, Jodi Munn-Barrow and Lisa Gardner of Jamaica, who ended four shots behind on 229. Bermuda's Morgan Lighbourne and Sarah Dwyer (249) ended in third place.
Wayne Baptiste and Richard Camacho also enjoyed success after they copped the Meen's Super Seniors (60 plus) category 208 (67, 68, 73). Jamaica B was second (214), followed by Jamaica A and Cayman Islands in joint third, with 200.
Ryan Gomez and Gabriel Vanososte completed a hattrick of wins for the local 12-member squad after they secured the Ramon Baez Ramona Trophy following their triumph in the Men's Mid-Amateur 35-plus with 207 (67, 69, 71). Jamaica A (218) and Cayman Islands A (219) were next.
Emilie Ramsahai and Ingrid Seeberan placed third in the Ladies 35-plus with a tally of 256 (86, 88, 82). Bermudans Tracy Burgess and Ann Symonds topped the field with scores of 220 (73, 71, 76) and relegated the defending champions, Jamaica's Maggie Lyn and Michelle McCreath (228-77, 73, 78). Seeberan won the 2023 title along with Violet Roopchand.
The Men's 50 plus pair of Clint Alfred and John Rampersad secured third place with 218 (69, 70, 79) along with Barbados.
Jamaican Mark Newnham and Owmen Samuda held on to the Francis Steele Perkins trophy with 204 (71, 65, 68). Bermuda was second (217).
Anwar Ali and Ahamad Ali were seventh in the Legends (men's 70-plus class) with 237 (77, 78, 82).
