The T&T men's 4x50m freestyle relay quartet of David Richard Knaggs, Anton Gopaulsingh, Curtis Harper, and Patrick Lee Loy earned a bronze medal when the 2019 FINA World Masters Championship continued at the Nambu University, in Gwangju, Korea on Friday.
Competing in the 200-239 category, Knaggs (29.93 seconds), Lee Loy (29.53), Harper (26.69), and Gopaulsingh (25.25) combined for a time of one minute, 51.40 seconds for third in the 15-team final.
South Africa's Cape Town MSC won gold in 1:42.23 while Brazil's Gustavo Borges Curitiba took silver in 1:44.98.
In the 4x50 men's medley relay (240-279), Lee Loy (36.99), Adrian Murphy (42.08), Knaggs (32.58), and Mervyn Campbell (57.29) combined for ninth spot in 2:48.94.
Overall, T&T has a contingent of seven swimmers participating in the championships which conclude on Sunday.
On Monday last, competing in the men's 800m freestyle 55-59 age-group, Lee Loy placed 13th from a field of 23 starters in 11.27.00 minutes, and a day later, in the 200m backstroke, Lee Loy was 14th best in 3:15.75 minutes,
T&T's Mervyn Campbell did not complete his 80-84 men's 100m freestyle splash, while Knaggs was ninth in the 65-69 category in 1:10.11; Gopaulsingh placed 29th in the 40-44 division in 1:00.50, and Harper, 32nd in 1:02.67
Wednesday, saw a number of the T&T swimmers back in action, with Danielle Cozier, ending seventh in the women's 50m butterfly, 50-54 age-group in 33.91 seconds while Knaggs was eighth in the men's 65-69 competition in 32.83; Lee Loy, 18th in the 55-59 division, in 32.62; Gopaulsingh touched the wall in the 40-44 category in 27th spot in 28.84, and Harper, 55th in 32.40.
On Thursday, Campbell was seventh in the men's 50m freestyle in 59.96; Knaggs was ninth in 30.12 in the 65-69 competition; in the 45-49 division, Murphy was 24th with a time of 29.38; and Gopaulsingh, finished 16th in the 40-44 age-group in 26.02, with Harper, 27th in 27 seconds.
Among the women, Cozier was 14th in the 50-54 category after she touched the wall in 31.50.
And in the 100m butterfly Knaggs was sixth in 65-69 category in 1:18.91, Lee Loy 11th in the 55-59 competition in 1:17.56, while in the women's equivalent, Cozier(50-54) placed sixth in 1:24.12.
On Saturday, Gopaulsingh will be the lone T&T competitor in action when he lines up in the 100m backstroke (40-44) while on Sunday, the final day of competition, Murphy (45-49), and Gopaulsingh (40-44) compete in the 50m backstroke, while Cozier lines up in the 50m backstroke, and Murphy in the 50m breaststroke.
