T&T golfers ready for Caribbean Senior Championships

Coach of the T&T se­nior golf team, Chris Richards Snr., says the lo­cal play­ers are ready to take on the best golfers in the re­gion at this year’s Caribbean Am­a­teur Se­nior Golf Cham­pi­onship, which tees off at the Iberostar Golf Course in Bavaro, Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic, Wednes­day.

Richards Snr says af­ter yes­ter­day’s prac­tice on the course, the T&T put­ters looked smooth and com­posed as they ma­noeu­vred the 18-hole course. He told Guardian Me­dia that the much-an­tic­i­pat­ed windy con­di­tions were not as strong as pre­dict­ed.

T&T se­nior men are look­ing to claim gold in the Ho­er­man Cup com­pe­ti­tion af­ter fin­ish­ing sec­ond to Puer­to Ri­co in the 2023 edi­tion at the Mag­dale­na Golf Course, Low­lands, To­ba­go. Ja­maica, the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic, and the Ba­hamas com­plet­ed the top five among the nine na­tions that par­tic­i­pat­ed.

T&T skip­per Ryan Pe­ters will be hop­ing to re­peat his hero­ics from last year, when he was named the joint top play­er of the tour­na­ment along with Rhadames Pe­na of Puer­to Ri­co, both tal­ly­ing 215.

Jean-Marc Chevortierre (14th-225), Ay­den Ali (18th-230), Ryan Gomez (20th-233), Ehtan Hill (25th-234), and Liam Bry­den (28th-236) will be look­ing to im­prove their 2023 per­for­mances over the next three days.

T&T women will be seek­ing to im­prove on their fifth place one year ago. Hosts Dom­in­can Re­pub­lic, Puer­to Ri­co, Ja­maica, and the US Vir­gin Is­lands fin­ished ahead of the Vic­to­ria Seenath-cap­tain ladies lo­cal quar­tet.

Chloe Ajod­ha was 12th (256), with Ja­da Charles in 15th (291). Cay­man Is­lander Hol­ly McLean was the top la­dy (217).

Seenath will be the first lo­cal in ac­tion when play gets un­der­way at 8 a.m. She will tee off at 9:40 a.m.,  40 min­utes af­ter the start of the ladies di­vi­sion. She will be fol­lowed by Elise La Bor­de (9.50 am), Zoe Cor­reira (10:00 am), and Chloe Ajod­ha (10.10 am). The T&T ladies are among 24 play­ers from the Cay­man Is­lands, US Vir­gin Is­lands, Puer­to Ri­co, Ja­maica, the Ba­hamas, and the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic.

Fifty-one men will square off at 8 a.m..  Gomez is the first lo­cal man on the course (9:50am), with Ali (10am), Bry­den (10.10am), Chevrotiere (10.20 am), Pe­ters (10:30 am), and Richards Jnr (10.40 am) up next.

T&T will face Bar­ba­dos, Turks and Caicos, the US Vir­gin Is­lands, Puer­to Ri­co, the Cay­man Is­lands, the Ba­hamas, Ja­maica, and the home team of the of the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic.

The na­tion­al squad is spon­sored by Trinidad and To­ba­go Mort­gage Bank, G.A. Far­rell & As­so­ciates, and In­no­v­a­tive Pow­er Sys­tems Lim­it­ed.
