T&T golfers struggling after Day 1 of Caribbean championships

Trinidad and To­ba­go’s Liam Bry­den shot a 75 af­ter day 1 of the men’s in­di­vid­ual play of the 67th Caribbean Am­a­teur Se­nior Golf Cham­pi­onship, which kicked off at the Iberostar Golf Course in Bavaro, Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic on Wednes­day.

Gomez is tied with com­pa­tri­ot Christo­pher Richards Jr for the 15th spot. 

The day’s best per­former is Ro­dri­go Huer­ta of the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic with 69; he’s tied with Max Alve­rio of Puer­to Ri­co for first place, while Juan Cay­ro De­la­ga­do of the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic is one stroke be­hind for third with a score of 70.

T&T’s Ryan Gomez is tied for 18th on 76 with four oth­er play­ers: Ryan Lue (Ja­maica), Richard Gib­son Jr (Ba­hamas), William Ja­cob­sen (Bar­ba­dos), and Ale­jan­dro Cara­ball of Puer­to Ri­co, re­spect­ful­ly.

T&T skip­per Ryan Pe­ters is fur­ther back in the 32nd po­si­tion with a score of 81 and tied with three oth­er play­ers, while Ay­den Ali is joint tied for the 37th po­si­tion with a score of 84 with Michael Graci of the US Vir­gin Is­lands, and Marc Chevrotiere round­ed off the T&T per­for­mances with a score of 87, tied for 41st place with Daniel De Quin­tal of the Cay­man Is­lands and Chris Gor­nail of the Turks and Caicos Is­lands out of a field of 48 play­ers. 

In the Ho­er­man Cup Di­vi­sion, T&T lies fifth with a gross plus 19, while Puer­to Ri­co leads with a mi­nus three, fol­lowed by the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic on a plus 2, Ja­maica on a plus 8, and the Ba­hamas on a plus 15 to round off the top five of nine teams. Cay­man Is­lands (6th) with a plus 28, the US Vir­gin Is­lands (7th) with a plus 30, Bar­ba­dos (8th) with a plus 37, and the Turks and Caicos Is­lands (9th) with a plus 90. 

In the in­di­vid­ual women’s di­vi­sion play, T&T cap­tain Vic­to­ria Seenath shoots an 81 for 12 out of 23 com­peti­tors. Elise Bor­de and Chole Ajod­ha both shoot 84 to tie for 14th place, while Zoe Cor­reia shoots 91 to oc­cu­py the 21st po­si­tion out of a field of 23 play­ers.

T&T women are seek­ing to im­prove on their fifth-place fin­ish in the George Teale seg­ment and are in a two-way tie for fourth with the Ba­hamas with a plus 21. Lead­ing the ti­tle race is Ja­maica on even par, fol­lowed by Puer­to Ri­co plus 1, the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic plus 13, and the Cay­man Is­lands sev­enth on a plus 25. The US Vir­gin Is­lands did not fin­ish their play.
