T&T’s junior cricketers will aim to take one step closer to the Cricket West Indies Under-15 Championship title today when they take on the Windward Islands in the fourth round in Antigua. It’s a top-of-the-table clash with the local boys leading the standings on 18.9 points, while the Windwards is in second position on 13.7 points. Barbados rounds off the top three with 12.6 points.
While T&T beat Jamaica by a massive 151 runs to keep its perfect run in the tournament going, the Windwards tasted its first defeat against Guyana in the third round on Monday. It leaves T&T leading by 6.3 points with two rounds of cricket left to play.
The local lads have gotten stronger as the tournament has worn on. Romario King scored with 107 runs in what was a man-of-the-match performance against Jamaica three days ago. Andrew Rambarran was also in good form, hitting 77 while Justin Jagessar scored 61. T&T then proceeded to bowl out the Jamaicans for a meagre 173 in 37.5 overs.
Jordan Johnson hit 64 runs from 57 balls, helping to inspire a second wicket stand of 60 runs with Adrian Weir (25) and then a third wicket partnership of 51 runs with Julani Sinclair, who scored 40. The Jamaicans were motoring along nicely in its chase at 115 for two in the 21st over, however, they lost their last eight wickets for just 58 runs in a major collapse.
The Windwards, who led the table up until this round, suffered a shock 25-run defeat at the hands Guyana at Coolidge Cricket Ground. At the Vivian Richards Stadium, Barbados picked up its second win of the competition, beating the Leeward Islands by 134 runs.
Today, as the Windwards faces T&T, the hosts will take on Guyana, and Barbados will face Jamaica. All matches bowl off from 9:30am
