Trinidad and Tobago under-17 men’s football team will look to keep their faint hopes of topping Group A of the Concacaf Under-17 World Cup Qualifiers alive when they tackle cellar-placed Sint Maarten in the opening match of a double-header at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo on Monday, from 4 pm.
The Ronald Boyce-coached T&T squad will enter the match in third place in the five-team round-robin pool with three points after two matches, after eking out a 1-0 win over Saint Martin on Thursday night at the same venue following a shock 1-0 loss to Barbados two days earlier.
With only one goal to their credit in two matches, Boyce’s charges will be keen to find their scoring touch against Saint Maarten, which is without a win after three straight defeats and has conceded heavily as well, against Sint Martin (3-0), Mexico (10-0) and Barbados (7-1).
In the night’s second encounter, Mexico, who blanked Saint Martin 4-0 for their second win on Saturday night to go top of the standings above Barbados on six points and with a superior goal difference, faces an unbeaten Barbados outfit, which is level on points with T&T but fourth due to an inferior goal difference.
Group A concludes on Thursday, February 12, with Saint Martin playing Barbados from 4 pm, followed by Mexico against T&T three hours later.
At the end of the round-robin group series, only the group winner will advance to the FIFA Under-17 World Cup to be held in Qatar in November.
Overall, 33 Concacaf Member Associations are competing in the 2026 edition of the competition from across six venues, with the eight group winners qualifying for the 2026 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
In addition to T&T, the other host nations include Honduras, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Panama, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
In the previous edition of the Concacaf Under-17 Qualifiers, played under the same format, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, and the USA topped their respective groups to secure qualification for the FIFA Under-17 World Cup Qatar 2025.
