T&T senior women’s volleyballers ended at the bottom of their five-team round-robin pool series at the 11-team 18th Pan American Volleyball Cup, after a fourth straight 0-3 loss at the Cerrado Coliseum in Chiclayo, Peru, yesterday.
Playing against Colombia, the Calypso Spikers, reigning eight-time Senior Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Women’s Championship winners, including a run of seven straight titles, were brushed aside 8-25, 8-25, 8-25 for their most lopsided defeat ever at the event.
Having played their four matches in Pool B, the Darlene Ramdin-led T&T team will have an off day Wednesday and Thursday before returning to action on Friday versus the fourth-placed team in Pool A, which will be either Cuba or Peru, from 9 pm.
In addition to Peru and Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Canada and Guatemala are the competing teams in Pool A, which is playing its round-robin matches in the Great Chimú Coliseum of Trujillo.
The pool winners will get direct tickets into the semifinal round while the second and third-placed teams of each pool will meet in crossed matches in the quarterfinals. The other teams will play for the seventh to 11th positions.
