T&T Crick­et Board (TTCB), via a press re­lease on Mon­day (Sep­tem­ber 22), ex­pressed its im­mense pride and joy at the re­cent out­stand­ing per­for­mances of the Trin­ba­go Knight Rid­ers (TKR) crick­et team and ath­letes Keshorn Wal­cott and Jereem Richards.

TKR, led by Nicholas Pooran on Sun­day, cap­tured the un­prece­dent­ed fifth Caribbean Pre­mier League (CPL) T20 cham­pi­onship by de­feat­ing the Guyana Ama­zon War­riors by three wick­ets in Prov­i­dence, Guyana in this year's fi­nal.

Last Thurs­day (Sep­tem­ber 18), Wal­cott cap­tured the gold medal in the javelin throw at the World Ath­let­ics Cham­pi­onships in Tokyo, Japan.

Hours lat­er Richards stormed to a sec­ond-place fin­ish in the 400 me­tres sprint fi­nal in a na­tion­al record time for the sil­ver medal at the World Cham­pi­onships.

“The TTCB ex­tends its con­grat­u­la­tions to the Trin­ba­go Knight Rid­ers and track and field ath­letes Keshorn Wal­cott and Jereem Richards for blaz­ing a trail of ex­cel­lence to make the en­tire pop­u­la­tion proud,” said pres­i­dent of the TTCB Az­im Bas­sarath.

He said the ac­com­plish­ments prove once again that our ath­letes can hold their own against the best in the world de­spite our small pop­u­la­tion.

“Their suc­cess keeps the T&T flag fly­ing high and sets the stan­dard for all those who want to fol­low in their foot­steps and at­tain in­ter­na­tion­al recog­ni­tion,” said Bas­sarath.

The crick­et boss said that the achieve­ments can­not be tak­en light­ly as Wal­cott, who grew up in To­co, proved that he is still a force to be reck­oned 13 years af­ter he snatched gold at the Lon­don Olympics.

Richards whose home­town is Point Fortin en­hanced his rep­u­ta­tion as a world class sprint­er who just just missed on a gold medal on the Tokyo track.

“The TKR showed they had the best team in the 2025 CPL de­spite be­ing writ­ten off by some, and just­ly claimed their fifth crown and the record of be­ing the most suc­cess­ful in CPL his­to­ry,” said Bas­sarath.

“Pooran led by ex­am­ple and Kieron Pol­lard de­fied the crit­ics by play­ing an in­te­gral role in the ti­tle-win­ning ef­fort sup­port­ed by his team­mates.”

He com­mend­ed the CPL for its con­tin­ued role in the pro­mo­tion of crick­et in the re­gion which gen­er­ates enor­mous eco­nom­ic ben­e­fits and pro­vides op­por­tu­ni­ties of the re­gion’s best T20 crick­eters.
