T&T senior women's team footballer Kédie Johnson, 24, became the seventh recruit of the AS Saint-Etienne transfer window and joins the Greens from LOSC.
Following the signing of her contract with the French club, Johnson said, "I am very proud to sign with this iconic club. It's not often that a Trinidadian player has the chance to play at the highest level in France, a very competitive championship. I am very grateful, and I can't wait to get back on the pitch, represent new colours and raise our goals with my new teammates."
Sébastien Joseph, coach of the Vertes, added, "We are very happy to welcome Kédie. It was important to bring athleticism to our defensive line. She is versatile on the field, which is also an asset for us. She is very strong in one-on-one situations and has a good passing and vision for the game, that is good for our team. We hope to see her quickly adapt to our project."
As part of its "Vert l'Avenir" CSR approach, AS Saint-Étienne is offering each of its employees, including its players, the opportunity to get involved in one of the four areas of its ASSE Cœur-Vert association: environment, citizenship, sport for all and health.
And this season, Johnson will participate in activities related to Sport for All.
The Port-of-Spain-born Johnson took her first steps on the pitch at a very young age, playing for St Augustine Secondary School, with whom she won the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL), the school championship of her Caribbean Island, three times.
She was only 11 years old when she first graced a national team with the T&T Under-15 team, then barely 16 years old when she was first called up to the T&T senior team, with which she took part, among others, in the Central American and Caribbean Games.
Johnson continued her progression at club level and was recruited by Florida International University in 2018.
During her first season in the USA, she played 11 matches and, in total, between 2018 and 2022, she played 51 times for the University of Miami Panthers before moving over 1,500 kilometres away to Louisiana Monroe University, where she competed in the Sun Belt Conference, playing 11 matches, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
In the summer of 2023, Johnson made the big jump to Europe and joined LOSC, which had just been promoted to the Arkema Première Ligue.
Her first season saw her take part in seven matches in the top flight, and despite the Dogues' relegation, the T&T international, now fully acclimatised, took advantage of the 2024-2025 season to play 18 matches in the Seconde Ligue in a versatile left-back role, capable of also playing further up the pitch.
Back in the topflight, this time with ASSE, which is preparing to begin its third consecutive season in the Arkema Première Ligue, Johnson will wear the number 20 shirt.
