T&T se­nior men's hock­ey play­er Teague Mar­cano is set to join coun­try­man Kwand­wane Browne at the Eng­lish Pre­mier Hock­ey League club Hol­combe Hock­ey Club.

Last month, the 46-year-old Browne, a for­mer T&T men’s in­ter­na­tion­al hock­ey play­er was ap­point­ed di­rec­tor of hock­ey and head coach of Hol­combe af­ter part­ing ways with South­gate Hock­ey Club.

The Bel­mont-born Browne, for­mer­ly of Queen’s Roy­al Col­lege and lo­cal club Notre Dame en­joyed a suc­cess­ful two-year stint with South­gate along­side Mar­cano as the pair helped guide the club back in­to the Pre­mier Di­vi­sion in both in­door and out­door com­pe­ti­tions.

Browne, who was capped more than 400 times by T&T in both in­door and out­door tour­na­ments com­bined across a 26-year in­ter­na­tion­al ca­reer, joined Hol­combe in a new full-time role on a sev­en-year con­tract and has al­so de­part­ed his role as Head of Hock­ey at Mill Hill School as part of his new con­tract.

Dur­ing his pro­fes­sion­al ca­reer, Browne, played for Hamp­stead & West­min­ster (1990-1997 & 2016-2022), Can­ter­bury (2002-2003 & 2009-2016), East Grin­stead (2003-2006), and South­gate (2022-2024)—and has al­so rep­re­sent­ed T&T across a mul­ti­tude of tour­na­ments in­clud­ing the Com­mon­wealth Games, Pan Amer­i­can Games and Pan Amer­i­can Cup.

In 2022 Browne a for­mer and Pan Amer­i­can Hock­ey Fed­er­a­tion mul­ti­ple Elite Team se­lec­tion was named as play­er/coach of South­gate re­turn­ing to the club he rep­re­sent­ed played for in 1997/1998, af­ter sev­en years with Hamp­stead & West­min­ster, which in­clud­ed the 2019 league cham­pi­onship.

Back then his ap­point­ment at South­gate came af­ter he and Mar­cano end­ed the 2021/2022 sea­son with Hamp­stead & West­min­ster in the Eng­land Men’s Hock­ey League Pre­mier Di­vi­sion “Top Six” com­pe­ti­tion in the fourth spot while both men were part of the Hamp­stead & West­min­ster team which fell to a 4-2 de­feat against Wim­ble­don in their all-Lon­don Eng­land Hock­ey League Su­per6s Men’s Pre­mier Di­vi­sion In­door semi­fi­nal.

Browne is al­so cur­rent­ly as­sis­tant coach to Paul Reving­ton with Eng­land and Great Britain Hock­ey teams hav­ing been in­volved in their na­tion­al set-up since 2008, be­com­ing as­sis­tant coach for the Great Britain men’s se­nior team in 2019 af­ter in­volve­ment across var­i­ous age-group sides and then the Elite De­vel­op­ment Pro­gramme.

The for­mer T&T cap­tain has al­so won the Pre­mier Di­vi­sion ti­tle as a play­er-coach as well as sev­er­al pro­mo­tions in both in­door and out­door hock­ey.

That Pre­mier Di­vi­sion tri­umph al­so al­lowed Browne to test him­self in Eu­rope at the pres­ti­gious Eu­ro Hock­ey League (EHL), where he earned the first win for an Eng­lish side against Dutch op­po­si­tion in six years.

In terms of in­di­vid­ual ac­co­lades, he has al­so won the Eng­land Hock­ey Per­for­mance 'Coach of the Year' award once.

The free-scor­ing Mar­cano has been in pro­lif­ic form since he joined South­gate and fin­ished with a tour­na­ment-high 31 goals from eight match­es, eight more than his near­est ri­val in lead­ing South­gate to the top spot in the 2023/2024 Eng­land Hock­ey League Su­per 6s In­door Cham­pi­onships Men’s Di­vi­sion One com­pe­ti­tion, and pro­mo­tion to the Pre­mier Di­vi­sion for next sea­son.

In his first sea­son at South­gate in 2022, Mar­cano was named the tour­na­ment’s lead­ing scor­er with 30 goals, 19 in the di­vi­sion­al round play­offs af­ter he fired South­gate to one of the two pro­mo­tion spots in the six-club Eng­land Hock­ey League Adult Su­per 6s In­door Cham­pi­onships Men’s Na­tion­al Di­vi­sion Two.

These strikes came from every phase of the game and in­clud­ed 16 open-field goals, ten from penal­ty cor­ners, and four from penal­ty strokes, and his tal­ly was four more goals than Si­mon Egerton of Bow­don, while Am­mad Butt scored 23 goals.

Fol­low­ing his ac­cep­tance of the Hol­combe role, Browne ap­point­ed Lu­cas Ball as the men’s 1s man­ag­er fol­low­ing Kei­th Mar­tin’s re­tire­ment while the club has al­so snapped up Fe­lix Tul­ly from Lough­bor­ough Stu­dents, and most re­cent­ly Eng­land in­ter­na­tion­al Matt Ramshaw, 24, from South­gate.

As well as pre­vi­ous­ly play­ing for South­gate, Ramshaw has spent time with Hamp­stead & West­min­ster in the Pre­mier Di­vi­sion and has Eu­ro Hock­ey League ex­pe­ri­ence from his time with the Padding­ton Recre­ation­al out­fit.

How­ev­er, be­fore sign­ing off his South­gate stint, Mar­cano will aim to lift the Eng­land Hock­ey League Mixed Tier I Knock­out Cham­pi­onship ti­tle when South­gate faces Oxted at South­gate Hock­ey Club in Lon­don, Eng­land on Sat­ur­day (June 8).

This af­ter, Mar­cano (28th, 43rd, 68th) and Charles Hamil­ton (5th, 23rd, 36th) scored hat-tricks in their team's 12-0 de­mo­li­tion of Bris­tol Fire­brands Flamethrow­ers in their semi­fi­nal on Sun­day (May 26) while Oxted spanked Alder­ley Edge 7-2 in the oth­er semi­fi­nal.

So far in the tour­na­ment, South­gate is yet to suf­fer a de­feat in six match­es, with vic­to­ries over East­cote (4-0), West Hamp­stead (5-0), St Al­bans (4-2), Blue­harts (2-1), Read­ing (3-0), and Swin­don (4-1).
