Tahira Beepat scored five goals to lead T&T 19 and Under girls to an emphatic 15-4 defeat of host Barbados and with it, the first gold medal at stake in the 2019 Carifta Water Polo Championship at the National Aquatic Centre, Wildey, St Michael, Barbados, yesterday.
With only two teams in the division, the T&T girls took a bold step towards the gold medal when they won Friday’s opener 14-3 before they returned to the same venue for the 15-4 win and top spot.
Today, the other three teams from T&T teams will also be competing for gold medals in their round-robin groups.
In the Under-14 Co-Ed category, T&T crushed Curacao 22-2 led by five goals each from Nathan Hinds and Josh Fuller to improve to 3-0 after sweeping past Barbados 12-3 and Bahamas, 12-6 on Friday.
T&T then made certain of a place in the final of the Under-14 Co-Ed by hammering Bonaire 23-0.
The Under-16 Boys improved to 2-1 by punishing Curacao as well, 17-1 inspired by hat-tricks from Christian Chin Lee and Benjamin Chow Quan.
On Friday, the Under-16 boys whipped Barbados 16-7 but fell to Bahamas, 7-11.
And in the 19 and Under Boys, T&T clobbered Bonaire (18-8) to add to Friday’s victories against the Bahamas (18-4), and Barbados (19-14) for a perfect round-robin record of 3-0 ahead of today’s finals.
