The US Open T20, the first major cricket tournament to be played in the United States over two decades ago continues to attract tremendous attention and the upcoming draft carded for October 25.
So far, the 2025 edition has attracted 2334 registrations from players from the West Indies and across the cricketing world.
The tournament which is the brainchild of businessman Mahammad Qureshi has launched the careers of several people including local hero like Ali Khan.
The cash-rich tournament has been staged for more than two decades with Qureshi bank rolling it along the way.
The year’s tournament will take place at the Central Broward Regional Park and starts on December 12 with the finals taking place on December 20. A total of six franchises will be fighting for honours and they are Chicago Catchers, DC Eagles, LA Lions, Dallas Smashers, New York Yorkers and Vegas High Rollers.
West indies and Trinidad and Tobago’s players who took part last time included Lendl Simmons, Imran Khan, Trevon Griffith just to name a few.
Over 2,000 players will be hoping to get in among the 84 players that will be used for the tournament.
Speaking to Guardian Media, Qureshi said, “We are happy with the fact that we can continue to host this tournament in the United States. It is the oldest tournament and one which has produced the best players here in the United States.
“Recently we have decided to focus a bit more on the development aspect and bring in a number of local players to play alongside the international players in order to gain the required experience to take the game to the next level.
“We are hoping that we can assist in the development of players to add to the increasing pool in order to assist the US National set up.” Some of the top players who have graced this tournament in the past includes Dwayne Bravo, Evin Lewis, Sunil Nadine, Darren Bravo, Denesh Ramdin, Ali Khan, Jaskaran Malhotra just to name a few.”
