The University of the West Indies (UWI) launched its 2019 edition of its half-marathon event on Wednesday. The event which will comprise several races will be held on October 20. This year’s theme is Youth Development Through Sport and the proceeds will go toward scholarships to assist sporting juniors with their tertiary education.
The 6th staging of the First Citizens race which is 3.1 miles will take the field from on a route from the Priority Bus Route in St Augustine to the La Resource Junction, D’Abadie and back to St Augustine. Participants will also compete for honours in a 4 x 5k relay event. Among those who addressed the gathering at the launch were from left, Prof.Emeritus Funso Aiyejina- Head, St. Augustine Academy of Sport UWI; Dexter Charles Senior Manager, Communications & Public Relations First Citizens; Prof. Brian Copeland, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Campus Principal, the UWI, St. Augustine and Grace Jackson head of the Sport and Physical Education Centre.
