The Uni­ver­si­ty of West In­dies, St Au­gus­tine Cam­pus net­ballers made an im­pres­sive start to their cam­paigns in the Al­ter­na­tive Di­vi­sion of the 2019 Courts All Sec­tors Net­ball League at the East­ern Re­gion­al In­door Sports Are­na, Tacarigua with both 'X' and 'Y' teams in win­ners row.

UWI 'X' reg­is­tered a com­fort­able 24-10 tri­umph over Las Lo­mas thanks to Shuntelle Mor­ris' 14 goals from 26 at­tempts while Tineca John (6/12), and Mari­ah Smith (4/6) com­bined for the oth­er ten goals for the win­ners who led 6-2, 17-4 and 18-7 at the end of the first three quar­ters.

For Las Lo­mas, Toya Al­leyne got six goals from 11 at­tempts, and De­bra Su­perville, four from ten.

And UWI 'Y' edged Jabloteh 16-14 led by Mari­ah Ro­driguez with nine goals from 13 at­tempts, Re­bec­ca Beg­gs with four from 15, and Sarah Ed­wards, three from nine at­tempts.

Jabloteh, which trailed at the end of all three quar­ters, 2-4, 4-9 and 10-11 got nine goals from 15 at­tempts by Aisha Steven­son while Okeisha May­ers chipped in with four from 14 at­tempts, and Chan­tal Fran­cis, one from four at­tempts.

In the night's open­ing con­test, Bermudez pow­ered past De­fence Force 23-7 with Shenequa Grif­fith con­vert­ing 14 of 21 at­tempts, and Jil­lisa Brig­gs, nine of 12 for the win­ners.

The duo of Nick­eisha Pe­ters Williams and Shemi­ka Thomas both scored three goals for De­fence Force from eight and ten at­tempts re­spec­tive­ly while Cel­lie Bona­parte got one from six.
