GEORGETOWN, Guyana – Youngsters Jonathan van Lange and Thaddeus Lovell have been drafted into the Guyana Harpy Eagles’ squad for the upcoming warm-up fixture against the West Indies Academy.
Having already booked their spot in the final of the West Indies Championship, the Harpy Eagles will face the Academy on Sunday at the Antigua Recreation Ground.
The match serves as the final dress rehearsal for Guyana’s title defence with the final looming on May 17.
Van Lange, who has captained Guyana at both the Under-17 and Under-19 levels, and fresh off his stint at the ICC Under-19 World Cup, has been included in the 13-member squad while Lovell replaces the injured Isai Thorne.
While Harpy Eagles head coach Ryan Hercules described Van Lange as a long-term project, he said the four-day format was crucial for his development.
Hercules said the four-day environment offered the “mileage” necessary for a young player to refine his skills and prepare for professional cricket.
The Harpy Eagles are expected to be without the services of fast bowler Shamar Joseph against the Academy, although he is expected to return for the final.
