Opener David Warner cracked another hundred as Australia stamped their authority on the 2019 ICC World Cup with a 48-run victory over Bangladesh at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, Thursday.
Warner hit 166 off 147 balls with 14 fours and five sixes and shared in two vital partnerships of 121 with opening partner and captain Aaron Finch and 192 with Usman Khawaja to lift the Aussies to their match-winning 381 for five.
Mushfiqur Rahman tried to match Warner with his own unbeaten hundred, a well-played 102 off 97 balls, but it was not enough as he did not have enough partners once the in-form Shakib Al Hasan managed only 41 on the day. His first ODI and World Cup century, which included nine fours and a six, eventually could only help Bangladesh get to a creditable 333 all out, their second successive 300-plus total.
Tamim Iqbal (62) and Mamudullah (69) also got half-centuries for Bangladesh.
Tournament leading wicket-taker Mitchell Starc (2/55), Nathan Coulter-Nile (2/58) and Marcus Stoinis (2/54) each bagged two wickets for the Aussies.
The win pushed Australia back to the top of the 10-team table with 10 points, one more than New Zealand and two more than England. India are fourth with seven points while Bangladesh remained at fifth spot.
Earlier, in getting to his second century of the tournament, Warner also became the second man to hit two 150-plus centuries in World Cup history.
Finch meanwhile hit a run-a-ball 53 while Khawaja lashed 89 from 72 deliveries with 10 boundaries.
Part-time medium-pacer Soumya Sarkar was the best bowler for Bangladesh with three wickets for 58 runs, which were those of Finch, Warner and Khawaja.
