Concorde's Revell Webster and Shakeem Mc Kay of Abilene Wildcats were in good form on the track on Sunday, each sprinting under the qualifying standard for the upcoming Carifta Games in two events at the National Association of Athletics Administrations of T&T third track and field Series at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.
Webster completed the sprint double, clocking 21.79 seconds to win the boys Under-20 100 metres and met the qualifying time of 21.92 in the morning session and later in the 100m dash, crossed in 10.73, to narrowly get under the 10.74-standard. Mercury's Miguel Taylor (10.93) finished second and third was Phoenix Athletics's Jaden De Souza (11.02).
Mc Kay followed the Concorde sprinter to the line in the half-lap event in a qualifying time of 21.86 and in the boys U-17 400m, again placed second with 48.06 close behind winner Keone John of Memphis Pioneers in 48.05, to both achieve the 48.50-standard. Coincidentally, Joshua Mascall (FAS) with 22.08 and 49.05 filled the third spot in both the 200m and 400m, respectively
Two more athletes met the standard for the Carifta Games set to take place in Kingston, Jamaica from April 16-18 on track, Cougars pair Kaiyin Morris and Kayleigh Forde.
Morris won the boys U-17 400m with a 49.88-timing to comfortably go under the 49.98-standard while beating Abilene Wildcats' Daeshaun Cole (50.70) and Burnley's Kyle Williams (51.00), to the line.
Forde led in the runners in the Girls U-17 800m with a 2:22.42-clocking, going under the qualifying time of 2:24.84. In second place was Zara Nicholls (Rebirth) with 2:33.80 and Tenique Vincent (Concorde) was third in 2:39.54. Gianna Paul (Concorde) also faced the starter in the two-lap event but did not finish.
However, earlier Paul was the lone jumper meeting the 1.58m-standard in the girls' U-17 high jump with a 1.64-effort to place ahead of Tenique Vincent (Concorde) with 1.55m and Jenna Mari Thomas (IG Fastlane) with 1.40m, respectively.
Kenika Cassar (Toco Tafac) surpassed the standard in the Girls U-17 Javelin of 36.08m with her best throw measuring 43.61m, her fifth throw. Impressively, five of six efforts went over the standard - 40.73m, 39.31m, 40.98m and 36.91m. Cassar opened with a 32.42m-throw.
The one-day meet also allowed senior athletes to see where they are at in meeting standards for three upcoming meets - the Commonwealth Games (CWG), North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Games and the Caribbean Games (CG).
In the combined 17 events for both men and women, no athlete met any of the standards.
