KINGSTOWN – Either the Windward Islands Women or defending champions Trinidad and Tobago Women will be crowned winners of the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup following the completion of yesterday’s final round in St Vincent on Saturday.
While a win would have secured the title for the Windwards, who led the table with 20 points after two rounds, they were defeated by Guyana Women.
Meanwhile, third-placed T&T entered the final round on 12 points and defeated Barbados Women by five wickets to make a bid for the title.
However, the point standings have not yet been updated, leaving both teams waiting to find out who will lift the title.
At Park Hill Playing Field: Guyana Women bounced back from their embarrassing showing in the penultimate round to upset table leaders Windward Islands Women by six wickets.
The result could prove to be decisive, as the previously unbeaten Windwards needed a win to claim the title and dethrone T&T Women.
However, the produced a below par effort with the bat on their way to being bowled out for 97 in 35 overs.
Earnisha Fontaine hit the topscore of 32, Jannillea Glasgow made 22 and Afy Fletcher added 21, but no other batter made it into double digits.
Their efforts were needed after Ashmini Munisar grabbed two early wickets to help reduce the Windwards to 41 for four.
Glasgow and Fontaine tried to rebuild the innings during a 48-run partnership for the fifth wicket, but once Munisar bowled the former, the Windwards lost their last six wickets for eight runs.
Munisar finished with 4-21, Mandy Mangru took 2-19 and Kaysia Schultz 2-25.
Led by captain Shemaine Campbelle, Guyana then cruised to 100 for four in 28 overs to record a comfortable victory.
The slipped to 49 for three following the early losses of Realeanna Grimmond, Mangru and Laurene Williams.
Campbelle came to her side’s rescue in an unbeaten knock of 26, and along with Shabika Gajnabi who made 14 and Sheneta Grimmond, who made nine not out, carried Guyana to their second win of the tournament.
At Cumberland Playing Field: Trinidad and Tobago Women stepped up to the plate with the bat to defeat Barbados Women by five wickets via the Duckworth/Lewis/Stern method and give themselves a shot at the title.
Barbados Women posted the second highest total of the competition of 152 for nine, despite the match being reduced to 48 overs.
Captain Aaliyah Alleyne led the way with 43, Trishan Holder made 32, and Asabi Callender contributed 22.
Alleyne and Holder combined to add 68 runs for the fifth wicket, which helped Barbados rally from 56 for four to 124 for four.
Anisa Mohammed and Nadia Mohammed shared seven wickets between them to bring T&T back in the match and help restrict their opponents.
Anisa was the best bowler with 4-26 and she received good support from Nadia (3-24).
Following the early loss of Samara Ramnath for four, opener Djenaba Joseph and Shunelle Sawh added 71 runs for the second wicket to put T&T in control at 76 for one.
Joseph, who made 35 and Shaw, who scored 34, then fell in quick succession to leave Guyana 85 for three and the game in the balance.
Anisa Mohammed (14), Britney Cooper (12), and Lee-Ann Kirby, who scored an unbeaten 12, made crucial contributions to see T&T to 133 for five in 38.4 overs, after the total was revised and they were given 41 overs to complete the chase.
At Sion Hill Playing Field: Jamaica Women finished the tournament strongly by easily defeating Leeward Islands Women by eight wickets in their bottom of the table clash.
Led by decent contributions from their middle order, the Leeward Islands posted 146 in 37.4 overs after electing to bat first.
Reniece Boyce made 37, Jahzara Claxton scored 29, Amanda Awards 27 and Shawnisha Hector chipped in with 17, to help their side post a competitive total.
Chedean Nation accounted for the wickets of Boyce, Edwards and Hector, on her way to claiming 4-23 from her eight overs.
Celina Whyte (2-19) and Stafanie Taylor (2-34) grabbed two wickets apiece.
Jamaica was then given a superb start by openers Lena Scott and Chrishana McKenzie, which allowed them to romp to 149 for two in 34.4 overs.
Scott topscored with 47 and Chrishana McKenzie hit 39, with the pair putting on 94 runs for the first wicket to knock the wind out of their opponents.
And when both fell in the space of 10 runs, captain Rashada Williams (26 not out) and Stafanie Taylor (19 not out) carried Jamaica over the line.
