Caribbean skin comes in a variety of colours, tones and textures. As a cosmopolitan people on the island of Trinidad where many different races co-exist in harmony, we can also boast of many interracial unions that produce offspring of varying dimensions of skin tones and hair textures. The proverbial 'callaloo' as we like to call it, simply translates into a mixture of a few or many different ethnicities, races and cultures so intertwined that one has to go into some detail to explain their golden skin tone, hair colour and springy curls. In the world of make-up it is simply not a one-colour-fits-all scenario; many factors play a part in the selection of the ideal makeup kit to suit the Caribbean woman. Generally speaking though, hair, eye colour and skin tone play a major role in the type and colours of make-up products you should select. I have selected the four major types of skin colours we have on this island and hope that the tips below will be of great assistance to you when you are doing your make-up shopping.
OLIVE SKIN:
The rich shades of warm oranges, vibrant browns, gold and bronzes work well on this particular skin-tone and serves to define your features in a wonderful way. Usually olive skinned women, derive a golden tan from the rays of the sun and would look best with a sun-kissed type of makeup look. A peachy-brown blush brushed on the apples of the cheeks with a touch of bronzer on top would make for a healthy glow, line lips with an orangey-brown lip liner and fill in with a matching colour lipstick or warm gloss.
ORIENTAL SKIN TONE:
Usually yellow-toned in complexion with black hair and dark eyes, this skin tone is best complimented by soft and warm toned hues. Lilac and pink tones of eye shadow along with dark liners in blue-black or steel grey are a sure complement to your tones. Use a warm pink blush to bring out your natural glow and define lips with a soft pink lip liner and matching lip-gloss. The cool blue tones of these shades would do amazing things to counteract any sallowness in yellow toned complexions.
LIGHT BLACK SKIN:
These ladies are usually blessed with long curly, springy locks of medium brown coloured hair which usually accompany hazel or light brown eyes. Your eyes will be easily complimented with earth toned shades of browns, beiges and coppers. Medium to red brown eye liners work perfectly with your light eyes along with beige-nude lip colours paired with a flesh toned lip liner. Blushes can range anywhere from baby pinks, soft peaches to any neutral colour you desire, just beware of harsh, bold colours on such a delicate natural toned complexion.
DEEP BLACK SKIN:
Your possibilities are endless with such rich looking dark skin, hair and eyes which literally provide the ultimate canvas with which to experiment on. The secret is to use deep, bold colours that can show up on your skin easily in order to achieve your wonderful look. Rich purples, fuchsia pinks electric blues, all look amazing on your skin colour. Bright and bold eyeliners in emerald green, blues, charcoal and rich black serves to highlight your dark eyes. Lip liners in blackcurrant are especially complimentary to dark lips along with burgundy, deep plums and fuchsia pink lip colours. Burgundy or red brown blushes add an amazing glow to your cheeks. While these dramatic colours are suited perfectly to your skin tone and beautiful colouring, make sure you use a light touch in order to achieve a fresh, modern finish.
