Na­tion­al fast bowler Kir­by­i­na Alexan­der de­stroyed the Bar­ba­dos bat­ting yes­ter­day as T&T es­caped with a two-wick­et win in their open­ing match of the West In­dies Crick­et Board (WICB) Women's Re­gion­al 50-over tour­na­ment in Grena­da.

Alexan­der snatched 5/38 to lim­it Bar­ba­dos to 134 all out in 38.3 overs. Pamela Lavine top-scored with 58, while 17-year-old Shaqua­na Quin­tyne pitched in with 44. Quin­tyne starred in the Women's In­vi­ta­tion­al Re­gion­al 19 and un­der T20 tour­na­ment last month in T&T, walk­ing away with the MVP award.

In re­ply, T&T seemed to be cruis­ing to vic­to­ry with the score on 106/4 af­ter 29 overs. How­ev­er, some the loss of quick wick­ets re­duced T&T to 130/8, still in need of five runs for vic­to­ry. T&T even­tu­al­ly scrapped through in the end to start their tour­na­ment on a win­ning note. Cap­tain Meris­sa Aguil­liera scored 24 for T&T.

In oth­er match­es, there were crush­ing wins for Ja­maica and Guyana. Ja­maica got past St Lu­cia by nine wick­ets and Guyana rolled over Do­mini­ca by 209 runs. In a much clos­er en­counter, St Vin­cent de­feat­ed hosts Grena­da by 59 runs.

T&T will at­tempt to make it two wins in a row when they face St Vin­cent to­mor­row.
