As we celebrate Indian Arrival Day in the 50th year of our nation's independence, one should pay homage to the often margi-nalised contribution of Dr Rudra-nath Capildeo to building our nation. While he was a major political player in our strides to becoming an independent nation, this is by no means what he should solely be remember for.
The world remembers him for the academic colossus that he was, whose theories on elasticity were instrumental in the early days of space travel. We should be so blessed in this country to have someone like him rising up from the struggles of indentureship, and he should be revered as the national hero that he was. Our youth need to be reminded of his contribution so they could aspire to his level of excellence.
