Erin po­lice killed a vi­cious pit bull af­ter it at­tacked a fe­male po­lice of­fi­cer and mauled a pet poo­dle to death yes­ter­day. In­ves­ti­ga­tors said around 8.50 am, Tri­cia Sankar, 38, of No 30 Buenos Ayres Road, Erin alert­ed po­lice that the pit bull was roam­ing the streets in front of her home. The pit bull mauled Sankar's pet poo­dle and rushed sev­er­al res­i­dents from the area. Cpl Makask­ie and WPC Ochoa vis­it­ed the scene and saw the white and brown pit bull at­tack­ing the poo­dle.

As they ap­proached the front yard, the pit bull left the poo­dle and tried to at­tack WPC Ochoa. She pulled out her ser­vice re­volver and fired a sin­gle shot at the dog, killing it in­stant­ly. The bul­let went through the pit bull's head. Its own­er was lat­er con­tact­ed by the po­lice. He said the pit bull broke its leash and went on a ram­page.
