Trinidad's most talked about crossover artist KI (Kris V Persad) will be a recipient of an award for chutney soca music when the National Youth Action Committee (NYAC) hosts its award ceremony for young achievers in various fields of endeavour.
The awards ceremony, scheduled for December 3, takes place at Trinity East College in Trincity, and has been endorsed by President George Maxwell Richards who recently hosted a function for the awardees.KI, the son of JMC 3Veni founder/musical director Veerendra Persad, is enjoying a magnificent career in his two years as a vocalist, and continues to rise as the fastest artiste in this genre of music in the history of the chutney soca art form.
Frontliner/producer of 3Veni, KI is ecstatic with this achievement as he continues to collect awards and accolades at a fast pace. A finalist in the 2010 National Chutney Soca Monarch competition, singing Catch Meh Lovah and No More Rum Again, he placed fourth, improving this year with a second runner-up placing.
KI also copped the People's Choice award which was decided by the public texting. Following a hectic Carnival 2K11 season, KI and 3Veni had the opportunity to open for King of Soca Machel Montano at Madison Square Gardens earlier this year. KI is also booked to perform at the final grand rally for Guyana's upcoming general election on November 26.
Having some of the most popular and demanded songs in the chutney soca world this year, such as Womanizer, the remix of the Guyana Road March, and Same Girl, 3Veni and KI will be the first band to perform at South Trinidad's newest night club-Maracas Night Club-next month.Chatting with T&T Guardian this week, KI extended thanks to his family, fans, band colleagues and the media for their overwhelming support.
He added: "I am eagerly looking forward to the upcoming Christmas/Carnival seasons. Look out for my new songs for next year, as I am starting to release in a matter of days. I have been on a dream ride thus far in my career and I could not have had this without the support of many. I just want to continue climbing and pleasing my fans."
Last year, 3Veni won the Crossover Band of the Year award at the International Chutney Soca Awards, held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA).Come C2K12, 3Veni is once again on the road on Carnival Monday and Tuesday with Trini Revellers' presentation of Carnival: The Golden Years.
