Trinbagonian Janeel Abraham, tutor, performing artist, director, and daughter of one of T&T’s most humorous calypsonians, Lord Brigo (Samuel Abraham), is set to give her USA hometown, Lima, Ohio, a Caribbean cultural experience with a difference.
On Sunday from 6-10pm, the Allen County Fairgrounds, 1750 Harding Highway, Lima, Ohio 45804, “will be a burst of energy.”
As lead co-ordinator, the Lima Caribbean Festival in partner with Richards Events will offer the Lima Caribbean Experience 2022, “novel to the town, and an epic celebration of Caribbean culture and heritage.”
Slated to perform are pannists, St Maarten US-based Mighty Dow and US-based Trinidadian Kinda John, and US Virgin Islands’ Eccentric Moko Jumbies, and Enchanted Limbo Dancers Group.
Samuel clarified that while the town has had cultural events, the festival will ramp up the experience.
Director of Member Engagement at the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce, American Cindy Tenwalde said she is excited.
Lead coordinator for Lima Caribbean Experience 2022, and director of Lima Caribbean Festival LLC, Janeel Abraham.
“I have many memories that have created a great love for the Caribbean heritage and music. I have visited many islands in the Caribbean and while there, seek out venues that provide ways to experience the culture and music. Although I’m born and raised in Lima, Ohio, I have lived in other regions of our country and have traveled throughout the world. Unfortunately, there are people in our community who have been unable to experience the wide variety of cultures throughout the world.
“Lima has been fortunate to have many international companies with local associates who bring their culture here and are willing to share that with others.
“Through the arts, our local theatres, symphony, Civic Center, and small local venues, many people are creating events to showcase the talents, culture, music, and rich history of other countries.”
Tenwalde expressed that this type of event is another way to benefit the community residents as an affordable way to experience the culture and music of Caribbean heritage, and she’s happy that a Trinidadian is involved.
“I am excited for others who have been unable to visit the Caribbean Islands to observe these instruments, dances, and artform, firsthand.
The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce exists to work with small businesses to help them grow, expand, and prosper.”
