Pan is being celebrated in various ways this August in what has been termed Steelpan Month. This year’s celebration flowed from a vein that re-imagined possibilities after it was hosted it in its entirety for two years on the virtual online platform. It has been re-engineered and retooled for a bigger and better experience.
With its reintroduction, Celebrating Steelpan Month 2022 was inspired by the reflection on how the world grieved for pan during the Covid-19 pandemic (2020-2021) even as recently as July 26 with Google and pan.
Pan Trinbago’s Events Committee chaired by Shivorne Mitchell, said it’s also a rejuvenation in itself, a reharmonisation of love, education, efforts and the true spirit of pan, ultimately, rebranding certain aspects of the month.
Week #1 – The Reintroduction caters to Panternational Presentation, a virtual event from August 1-4 at 8pm, but on August 5 from 6pm with Northern Region’s Let’s Celebrate Steelpan Month, at 8pm; and on August 6, South/Central Region’s Pan Explosion at 7pm.

Week #4 – The ReharmoniSation: August 21, Steelband Leaders Recognition & Appreciation Ceremony; August 22, Steelpan Business Forum; August 23, 8pm, a virtual event Blast from the Past; August 24, Pan and Powder from City Hall to Queen’s Park Savannah; August 26, 6pm, Northern Region’s Let’s Celebrate Steelpan Month and 7pm, South/Central Region’s Pan Explosion.
Week #5 – The Rebranding: This, the final week, will offer a Youth Gala & Award Ceremony on August 28 with further information to be advised. Driven by their brand message Prosperity in Pan, which is actually an active project, working these events with Mitchell are Richard Gill, Eva-Marie Pouchet, Salisha James, Lauren “Lau Pie” Pierre, Nicholas Deabreau and Marcus Ash.
Pan Trinbago President Beverly Ramsey-Moore, said she is a stickler for giving youth opportunities to hone the right organisation skills and build experience, whereby boosting their self-esteem, team spiritedness and team work, thus, she has given them full reign.
Having learned the value of being proactive, the committee offered a peak into its upcoming events for September 2022 which will include Pan on the Promenade with Single Pan and Small Bands categories, and Drums of Praise.
Ramsey-Moore said while the effects of Covid-19 were disruptive, damaging in many ways both external and internal to the office and steelpan body on a whole, she took the bitter with the sweet, and if the seeds she planted are well watered, the fruits or flowers they bear will only lend well for a brighter pan, for years to come.
