As a strong PP supporter I am very concerned by the Government hiring all these prominent media people as supposed PR practitioners for various ministries.Surely, between the good work of these ministries themselves and the reports of the independent media the message of achievement or vice versa will be conveyed to the general public.
To me, this practice, which was a hallmark of the previous administration, is indicative of a mass insecurity which is so unbecoming. This is the type of behaviour which was voted out seven months ago.Actually, last week there was a prime example of what I am talking about. On Wednesday, the Works and Transport Minister launched his very successful response to the maxi-taxi strike on the Priority Bus Route and he and his team were given very generous and positive coverage in all of the daily newspapers the following day.
So why does the Works Ministry then take out a full-page newspaper advertisement on Friday, paid for by my tax dollars, when the same message was heralded loud and clear by the independent media the day before for free. Now while we are at it, when is the Government going to privatise the loss-making CNMG?This drain on the Treasury has no right being owned by a democratic government and needs to be sold like hot hops.
