The Women Empowering Women campaign launched in T&T to help women go fearlessly after their dreams has been initiated by fashion designer Neha Karina Dawar.
Dawar said the aim of the campaign was to "empower women to go fearlessly after their dreams, letting them know that their gender has no bearing on being successful".
She said, "in the past 40 years, women have been attempting to balance the scale of inequality between male and female in the labour force, by choosing careers in traditionally male-dominated fields including engineering, politics, medicine, media, entertainment, technology, and aviation".
Dawar said today's women are not only breaking the glass ceiling but they want it all—"family and high powered careers, just like our male counterparts".
Dawar herself was a victim of bullying when growing up. But instead of letting it be a hindrance, it just fuelled her to work harder to accomplish her goals.
Now occupying an influential role within society, she realised that she needed to reach out to other successful women and let them have the opportunity to inspire other women through their stories.
As part of the campaign, these women were clothed by the designer and met on one common ground where they shared their unique stories.
"The campaign is intended to highlight the challenges that successful women faced before finally getting their dream jobs. They were then featured in a video promoted on Facebook, Instagram and in the press," Dawar said.
The objective, she said, is simple: Show the world what we are—successful women inspiring other successful women!
"The intention is to eliminate the judgemental aspect in our society of women. The stories create an understanding of these women in different themes and walk of life."
Dawar extended thanks to the people who helped to make the event a success—Location—Enchanted Gardens, New Grant, Princes Town, Hilton Trinidad: Make-up and hairstyle—Beauty by Jamie; Photography—Shannon Britto; Cosmetics—CaraMia.
Dawar said the campaign was a success and she intends to host it again next year.
