Western Division Police officers are searching for two men who were involved in an early morning gunfight with their colleagues today.
The shooting took place around 6.30 am as officers led by Sgt Arneaud and Cpl Nurse were on their way to search a house in Carenage.
The officers had just recovered a small quantity of marijuana after searching two empty lots of land at Smith Hill and Schuler Streets. They were driving to another location along La Horquette Valley Road when they noticed two pedestrians acting suspiciously when they saw the police vehicle.
The men reportedly drew guns and began shooting at police, who returned fire.
Outnumbered, the gunmen jumped a wall of a gated community in the area and evaded police by running through an adjoining forested area.
Detectives are currently contacting public and private hospitals as they believe at least one of the suspects may have been wounded in the brief exchange.
The men are said to be African males, in their 20's, slim built and with low haircuts. They were wearing dark T-shirts and jeans at the time of the shooting.
Investigations are continuing.
