Police moved swiftly to arrest and charge Darren Julien, 37,the same night a teacher complained about himat a Police Town Meeting at the Mon Repos Community Centre on Monday.
Teacher Frances Sampson appealed to DCP Operations Deodat Dulalchan for increased police patrols in the area, following a robbery at the nearbyLai Kin Restaurant and subsequent execution of Jerome "Pum" Calliste outside the same establishment in January. She also appealed for the arrest of the pervert, whom she said was terrorising young female students by exposing himself while out on bail for a similar offence.
Dulalchan immediately instructed Inspector Don Gajadhar to seek out the man, who lives at the corner of Upper Hillside and Carib Streets, a stone's throw away from the school. Patrols in the area were also increased. While the meeting was still in progress,PC Crawford, of the San Fernando CID, held Julienwith a stolen table in his possession. He was charged by Crawford for larceny of the table, while PC Heeralal, of the Mon Repos station, laid the indecent exposure charge against him.
Julien appeared before San Fernando Magistrate Kerry Ann Byer in the Fifth Magistrate's Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty to both counts.
On the count of larceny of the table, valued at $800, he was sentenced to 60 days hard labour, plus 40 days, also with hard labour, on the indecent exposure charge. All together he will serve100 days in jail.
Only recently, another pervert brokeinto the girls washroom at the San Fernando Seventh Day Adventist School and exposed himself to students there. He escaped when a teacher raised an alarm. That incident prompted protests by teachers and parents and led to a number of improved security initiatives.
