Nine people were arrested and four illegal firearms, a quantity of ammunition and narcotics were seized in police exercises over the weekend.
Acting on information received, officers from the Northern, North Eastern, Central, Southern and South Western Divisions carried out anti-crime operations from August 12-14.
Police said among those arrested was an Arima man who was found with a pistol and four rounds of ammunition; a Barataria man who had a pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition; four Gasparillo men who were held with a magazine containing four rounds of ammunition; a La Romaine man for possession of three rounds of ammunition; a Palmiste man who had 22 marijuana plants; and a Guapo man with six packets of marijuana weighing approximately 3.1 kilogrammes.
Police said during the exercises, Northern Division officers also discovered an AR-15 rifle.
The TTPS thanked all citizens who provided useful information which led to the discovery of the illegal weapons and resulted in arrests.
No identification on decomposing body
The decomposing body found along a track in Caparo on Sunday morning is yet to be identified.
Police were alerted via an anonymous call around 10 am that a body was seen in a muddy track leading off the Caparo Brasso Valley Road.
Officers later found the body of a man wrapped in black plastic. They were unable to provide any information to help identify the body, save to say the victim was dark in complexion and had a gold tooth on the right upper jaw.
The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, for identification.
US citizen dies after fall
A 40-year-old US citizen, who reportedly jumped off a third-floor balcony in Glencoe, has died.
Police said Keri Kent of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, succumbed to her injuries two hours after she reportedly jumped from her mother’s balcony on Saturday. Kent and her 35-year-old boyfriend were said to be spending holidays with her 74-year-old mother at La Horquette Valley Road, Glencoe.
It was reported that between 9 pm and 10 pm, the three were at home together when they began arguing. It is alleged that Kent subsequently jumped off the balcony. Kent was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where she was pronounced dead at around 12.26 am on Sunday. An autopsy was scheduled to be performed yesterday.
