Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi is not going anywhere.
This, even as a police investigation into the transfer of a vehicle by Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi to former Police Service Commissioner Roger Kawalsingh in 2016 continues. Questions have arisen to why the AG has not been asked to step down or take a leave of absence until it is concluded.
In responding to this on Saturday, the prime minister said, “I will do what has to be done. If there is a requirement for a minister to be removed from the Cabinet for misconduct, ask any of them, I will be the first to remove them. But I am supposed to remove Faris because Kamla write a letter? That is grounds alone not to even look at it.”
Urging the country to “Ignore the dotishness, the lies, the misinformation and focus on what is real and of substance in this country,” Rowley swore to keep those who lie and steal out of the corridors of power in this country.
In October 2021, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar wrote the Police Commissioner a 24-point submission, seeking a probe of Al-Rawi’s alleged illegal transfer of the vehicle and failure to notify the Transport Commissioner on the change of ownership.
