The Ministry of Agriculture says the matter involving food crop farmer Ramdeo Boondoo is now being investigated by the Praedial Larceny Unit of the Ministry.
Responding to a story in yesterday's Guardian, the Ministry said it had investigated the matter and had ascertained that when the incident was first reported by Boondoo to the Praedial Larceny Unit he was told by the officer that the Unit was unable to visit his premises at that time as they were involved in other enquiries at the Barrackpore and Santa Flora Districts.
Boondoo was also given the assurance by the Praedial Larceny Unit that the officers will visit his holdings upon the conclusion of their exercise.
This was subsequently done and the officers were able to interview Mr Boondoo and obtain a statement from him.
As it stands the Ministry said the matter is currently being investigated by the Praedial Larceny Unit.
According to the Ministry, at no time during the initial conversation with Mr Boondoo was he told that the Praedial Larceny Unit would be unable to facilitate him with his complaint.
The Ministry of Agriculture said it remains committed in its efforts to all stakeholders, and we will continue to work together to build an enabling agriculture sector.
