The Anthony N Sabga Awards has made long overdue presentations made to 2020 laureates in their home territories by the heads of state and government of those states in the last few weeks.
One presentation remains and President Paula-Mae Weekes will present the T&T laureate Dr Shirin Haque with her prize in Port-of-Spain on November 13.
In Jamaica, 2020 Public & Civic Contributions Laureate Dr Olivene Burke was presented with her medal, citation, and cheque by Governor
General Sir Patrick Allen in a ceremony at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston on October 7. A former governor general, and current member of our Regional Eminent Persons Panel, Sir Kenneth Hall, spoke at the ceremony.
A week later, at Government House in Castries, Jallim Eudovic, the Arts & Letters Laureate, was presented with his prize by Sir Neville Cenac, and eulogised by former (2010) laureate, Adrian Augier, and Prof Nigel Harris and Dr Charmaine Gardner, and graced with the presence of former Governor General, Dame Pearlette Louisy.
And in a beautiful open-air ceremony at Baridi Bernab, State House in Georgetown, Entrepreneurship Laureate Andrew David Mendes was conferred with his prize by Dr Irfaan Ali, President of Guyana.
The ceremony was addressed by Major General (Retd) Joe Singh, who is also a member of the regional panel for the awards.
