Ten people have been arrested by police for breaching the curfew and health regulations.
In the first instance, a 58-year-old man, of Hermitage Village, has been charged with conducting sales from a bar, contrary to the Public Health Regulations.
Police said Rajendra Arjoon, of Hermitage Village, San Fernando, was arrested yesterday for conducting sales from a bar.
According to police, PCs Maharaj and Singh were on mobile patrol along Dumfries Road, Hermitage Village, San Fernando, when they observed that Hill View Bar was open for business and the owner, Arjoon, was allegedly conducting sales contrary to the provisions of Section 3(1) of the Emergency Powers Regulations.
He was arrested and charged and is expected to appear at the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court today to answer the charges.
Meanwhile, eight people were arrested during a COVID Enforcement Exercise at Invaders Bay, Mucurapo, on Sunday.
According to police, during the exercise, the officers observed eight people at Invaders Bay, contrary to Emergency Powers No 2 Regulations 2021.
The eight were arrested for being found on a beach, while beaches are closed to the public.
The exercise was coordinated by Ag Insp Basant and Sgt Moses and included officers from the St James Police Station and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force (TTDF).
A 23-year-old man was also granted $50,000 bail with a surety by Justice of the Peace Abraham Ali on Saturday, after he was charged for breach of curfew and for wearing camouflage clothing.
Police said Kareem Hart was held when PCs Mykoo and Dwarika were on surveillance duty at William Street, San Juan, around 11 pm Friday. The officers allegedly observed a black Hyundai Elantra and intercepted the vehicle and apprehended the driver, who was in camouflage clothing.
The man was arrested and taken to the Morvant Police Station, where he was charged for breach of curfew and for wearing camouflage clothing.
As a result of the arrests, the TTPS is urging citizens to adhere to the Public Health Regulations.
