The Office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Legal Affairs will be hosting a virtual town hall consultation on the Summary Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2022.
The consultation on the fireworks bill will be held on Friday at 1 pm. It can be viewed on Facebook via @likeAGLA and on Youtube via Office of the Attorney General & Legal Affairs.
In January, then-Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi drafted the legislation. If passed, part of the legislation will require citizens to obtain a license to set off fireworks, however, they will not be required to obtain a permit for the discharge of fireworks on a public holiday and on December 31.
During these periods, people will be allowed to use fireworks for one hour between the hours of 8 pm and 9 pm on a public holiday and from 11.30 pm to 1 am the next day on December 31.
Only those 18 years older will be allowed to apply for the permit.
