A police officer with three years service, attached to the Tobago Division appeared virtually before a Scarborough Magistrate on Friday, charged with sexual penetration of a 15-year-old girl.
Edwin Dennis 24, was called to answer for five counts of sexual penetration of a child who lives on the northern side of the island. The incident allegedly occurred between 2016 and 2018. Charges were laid following advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard, SC, on Thursday.
Dennis was not called upon to plea, as the charges were laid indictably.
The matter was heard before Magistrate Sherene Murray-Bailey. He was granted bail in the sum of $175,000 and is scheduled to reappear in court on September 24, 2020.
W/Sgt (Ag) Cavelle Mills-Walters of the Tobago Division Child Protection Unit (CPU) laid the charges, following a report made to officers surrounding alleged sexual abuse over an extended period of time.
The investigation was supervised by W/Supt (Ag) George, ASP Nowbutt, and Sgt Miller.
