Investigators are probing a drug link in the murder of El Socorro burger vendor Shivanan Ramnarine, who was shot 17 times near his cart on Wednesday.
Ramnarine, 28, was standing outside D’ Krab House Sports Bar, along Chankar Trace, El Socorro South, San Juan around 4.20 pm, when a white station wagon pulled up near the cart, reports said.
A gunman reportedly got out, opened fire on Ramnarine and got back in the wagon, which sped off.
Passers-by took Ramnarine to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mt Hope. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Barataria police and detectives from the Homicide Bureau of Investigations, Region One, responded. However, they were yet to arrest anyone for Ramanrine’s murder up to yesterday afternoon.
Police said Ramanrine’s murder occurred near a relative’s business, where he had been hanging out earlier. They said a relative is a person of interest to North Eastern Division police. The relative allegedly owns a leisure spot along a river in El Socorro South and is a big player in the illegal drug trade.
They suspect Ramnarine’s murder was a warning to the relative.
Meanwhile, police shot and killed a man wanted in connection with shooting at officers on September 19, following a robbery along the Priority Bus Route, Aranguez.
A report said around 10 pm on Tuesday, officers from the North Eastern Division Task Force and North Eastern Division Gang Intelligence Unit executed a search warrant for ms and ammunition at the Morvant home of Richard Ferriar.
When the officers entered the house and announced their presence, Ferriar allegedly emerged pointing a gun at the officers. When officers ordered him to drop the weapon, he refused and they fired several shots, hitting Ferriar.
Officers him to the EWMSC for treatment but he died before arrival. Police wanted to question Ferriar in relation to several robberies in the division.
