Police were expected to visit the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) to obtain a medical report on the condition of a 17-year-old suspect in the kidnapping and murder of Dr Rudradeva Sharma. This police sources said was to determine if he was genuinely ill or trying to delay any charges being laid against him.
The suspect, who lives on Lady Hailes Avenue, San Fernando, was discharged from the San Fernando Hospital and taken into police custody earlier this week.
However, he complained about pain from the injuries he suffered in the vehicular crash that claimed Sharma’s life and another suspect, Akeem Marine.
Investigators are hoping to determine whether the teenager was attempting to stall their investigation and the charges that are likely to be brought against him.
On Thursday, his alleged accomplice Antonio Francois, 19, also of Lady Hailes Avenue, stood before the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court, charged with the murders of Dr Sharma and Akeem Marine. He was also accused of kidnapping Sharma and his colleague Dr Prem Naidoo on January 15.
Francois was charged with robbing the doctors of their mobile phones and Sharma's Honda CRV SUV before beating them.
Sharma and Naidoo, both doctors at the SFGH, ended their shifts around 10 pm on the night they were kidnapped.
