Chairman of the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation Anil Juteram has denied reports that officers attached to the Anti-Corruption Investigation Bureau (ACIB) searched the offices of the corporation on Friday. He said the presence of police officers on the compound had nothing to do with a recent court appearance by Councillor Anil Maharaj.
Maharaj, the representative for Cumuto/Tamana, was released on $130,000 bail after making his first court appearance on Friday after being charged with misbehaviour in public office. He appeared before Port-of-Spain magistrate Maureen Baboolal-Gafoor.
The corporation has distanced itself from the allegations made against Maharaj.
