A man and a woman are recovering at the San Fernando General Hospital after being robbed and shot at Skinner Park in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Police said the victims—a 32-year-old woman from Marabella and a 31-year-old man from Santa Rosa Heights—remain in stable condition.
Police said the couple was sitting on a bench at the park around 4.10 am when they were approached by two suspects. One was a woman dressed in a black hoodie and black long pants, armed with a firearm. The other was a man wearing a black jersey, blue three-quarter pants, and a black hat.
The pair robbed the man of a wallet valued at $200, containing $700 in cash, a Scotiabank debit card, his national ID, and his driver’s permit. The female victim’s bag, worth $100, which contained $102 in cash, an ANSA Bank card, her national ID, and a Freeon cellphone valued at $900, was also stolen.
Police said a struggle broke out between the man and the armed female bandit, which resulted in both victims being shot in the legs.
They managed to get to the San Fernando General Hospital, where they were treated and interviewed by PCs Maingot and Rambarran.
Investigators visited the scene with crime scene personnel but found no items of evidential value. Attempts to obtain CCTV footage from around the park were unsuccessful.
Located in central San Fernando, Skinner Park is a popular location for morning and evening exercise. However, at night, the grounds and pavilion are often occupied by homeless people seeking shelter.
